RHINOPLASTY Post – Operative Information
·         After your Rhinoplasty procedure an external splint will be applied to the outside of your nose.  This needs to be left in place for one week.
·         Sleep slightly propped upright against 2 – 3 pillows for the first week.  This will help to reduce any swelling you may experience post surgery.
·         You must take all oral antibiotic tablets you have been prescribed until finished, to avoid potential infection.
·         During the first 72 hours you may experience some discomfort.
·          It is important to take regular pain relief. Paracetamol or Panadeine taken four to six hourly. In addition you may be prescribed a stronger analgesia for the first few days, please take as directed
·         DO NOT TAKE Aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications unless they are prescribed for a medical condition as they can encourage bleeding.
·         Avoid bending over, heavy lifting, alcohol consumption or vigorous activity for the first 2 weeks.
·         Your nose will feel blocked and you will be only able to breath through your mouth until the swelling has resolved.
·         It is common to develop bruising and blackening around the eyes and the occasional nose bleed.  This will usually settle down within a week.
·         You may use Arnica for bruising only AFTER your surgery.
·         It is preferable your splint remains dry for the 1 week period. You may shower/bath after 24hours just try and avoid saturating your dressing.
·         Please keep in mind that it may take some time for any swelling to resolve and that the true results of the operation are not really apparent until possibly 3 months after the procedure.
·         Most people are safe to return to work after 1 week.
·         You are required to come in the day after surgery for a wound check with the nurse and on Day 7 for removal of your splint and sutures.
·         If you are feeling unwell, have bleeding or are concerned please contact the Clinic or Mark Izzard immediately so we can assess you.
